On July 22, 2019, the University of Dalat held a meeting between Professor Tetsukazu Yahara - Director of Center for Asian Conservation Ecology, Kyushu University, Japan and Mr. Le Minh Chien, Vice president of the University, together with key leaders of related department and faculties.
During the meeting, Professor Yahara exchanged important information on the results of the cooperation among scientists of the two universities, based on the memorandum of understanding signed between Dalat University and Kyushu University.
In particular, Professor Tetsukazu Yahara informed of the SATREPS, Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development, sponsored by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Professor Yahara and the research team led by Dr. Nguyen Van Ngoc from the University of Dalat actively developed a research proposal. They reported to the Board of Directors of Da Lat University and submitted to the Prime Minister a proposal for approval of a non-refundable ODA for this project. If the proposal is approved, the project will be implemented in a period of 5 years (from 2020 to 2025), in which JICA will sponsor DaLat University for 300 million yen ($ 2.8 million) to buy research equipment to, and JST will sponsor DLU 165 million yen ($ 1.6 million) for the research.
Also during the meeting, Dr. Le Minh Chien, Vice President in charge of Dalat University, affirmed that the Board of Directors will fully support the project and would create the most favorable conditions to implement research activities between two universities to achieve the best results. The university leader also asked the relevant departments to support the research team to propose and obtain the sponsorship from SATREPS.
Also in the meeting, Professor Yahara presented a research product, which is a picture book on diversity of flora system of Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park, volume 1 to the Department of Biology. In the future, the research team will continue to publish one more volume about this region's diverse flora.
